In the second entry of the Institute's Public Affairs Series, which aims to enhance our members' understanding of economic, social, and public policy developments and issues, we are pleased to welcome the Honorable Mr. Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to share his insights on Hong Kong's role and opportunities in the current geopolitical landscape.
EVENT OVERVIEW
Despite growing competition from nearby Asian cities, Hong Kong remains an important financial centre and continues to serve as a key conduit for capital between the Mainland and the global economy. Hong Kong's strategic position as a gateway for foreign investment into China has significantly facilitated cross-border business and legal services. This advantage is particularly evident in areas such as arbitration and fintech, where the city's robust infrastructure and regulatory framework have facilitated operations and growth. Additionally, a rising role in Green Finance and ESG aligns Hong Kong with global practices in sustainability disclosures and regulatory standards.
We are honoured to have the Financial Secretary, a Past President of the Institute, to share his insights on Hong Kong’s role and opportunities under the current geopolitical landscape.
We encourage all members to participate in this session to gain a better understanding of Hong Kong’s strategic importance in the context of global developments.
